About Miguel Muñoz
A lot of the men I see have never been to therapy before. Maybe their wife or partner finally asked them to come. Maybe something specific broke open: a panic attack out of nowhere, a relationship in crisis, a job loss that hit harder than it should, grief that wouldn’t stay buried. Maybe they’ve just gotten tired of feeling angry, numb, distant, or like they’re white-knuckling through their own life. I work with men the way I’d want to be worked with: direct, honest, no condescension, and without the therapy clichés that make a lot of guys check out in the first 10 minutes. We get to the actual issue. We figure out what’s underneath it. And we build the tools you’ll actually use. I’m specifically experienced working with male clients on anxiety, depression, anger and emotional regulation, relationship and marriage issues, infidelity recovery, fatherhood, grief, life transitions, and the particular weight that men carry around shame, identity, and what it means to be a man at this point in your life.
I served 16 years in the US Army as an Administrative Specialist and Supply and Logistics Manager. Part of my role was counseling soldiers through professional and personal issues. The work of helping someone get back on their feet didn’t start when I became a therapist. If you’re a current service member, veteran, or family member of one, I understand the context you’re operating in: the deployments, the moves, the readjustment back to civilian life, the marriages and parenting that have to keep working through all of it, the things you saw or did that you don’t talk about with people who weren’t there. You don’t have to translate any of that for me. Therapy with a fellow veteran is different, and for many vets, it’s the difference between actually doing the work and giving up after two sessions.
Therapy in many Latino and Hispanic families is still a big step. There’s stigma, there are generational differences in how mental health is understood, and there’s the very real complication of having one foot in the country your family came from and another in the one you’re living in now. I work with families on conflict between parents and adult children, intergenerational tension, the experience of being first- or second-generation, navigating identity across cultures, blended-family dynamics, and the everyday issues that show up in any family but hit a little differently in ours. Couples and families can be seen together, and we can move between English and Spanish as the conversation needs.
My approach is integrative and practical. I draw on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for shifting the thought patterns driving anxiety and depression, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for emotional regulation and distress tolerance, EMDR for trauma processing, Motivational Interviewing for clients in the early “should I really be doing this?” stage, and Mindfulness-Based approaches for the parts of the work that aren’t about thinking your way out. For clients who find strength in their faith, I also offer the option of integrating Christian faith-based work into therapy, without ever pushing it on clients who don’t want that. The tools we use depend on you, not on a manual.
I earned my Bachelor’s in Psychology and my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University, graduating in 2024. I completed my practicum at Jewish Family Services in Orlando and my internship at Heartbonds Counseling before joining Longboat Counseling in early 2025. I’m currently a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern in the State of Florida (FL #IMH27281) on the path to full LMHC licensure, working under the clinical supervision of Romina Papadopulos, LMHC, QS, a Florida-approved Qualified Supervisor with over a decade of experience. Every part of my clinical work is reviewed and guided by a senior clinician, which is one of the real advantages of seeing a therapist at this stage of their career.
